1. Rosemary

Rosemary is a healthy plant with a high percentage of essential oils, flavonoids, rosemary acid and bitter substances. The rosemary oil and the rosemary leaves are ideal for use as culinary herbs or as medicinal herbs due to their natural ingredients. Planting rosemary yourself or at least having it in your apartment makes a lot of sense!

Effect of rosemary Rosemary pushes your concentration and brain performance to unknown heights. The healthy medicinal herb is therefore even used against dementia and Alzheimer’s. The essential rosemary oil is perfect for healthy and beautiful hair and helps with itchy scalp and dandruff. Rosemary oil also has a regenerative effect for joint and muscle problems. Both in the bath or as a massage oil, the healthy plant is also a real wonder weapon! Rosemary oil promotes blood flow to your skin and is therefore a popular way to look young for a long time. Rosemary is also the ideal medicinal herb to strengthen your immune system.

Planting rosemary yourself If you want to plant healthy plants like rosemary yourself, there are a few things to consider. The medicinal herb must be planted in dry and at least 20 ┬░ C warm places. As a breeding ground for rosemary, you should use pumice instead of potting soil, as pumice can store water and give it to plants if necessary. Too little water tends to be better with rosemary than too much water! Rosemary is one of many healthy plants and herbs that require very little fertilizer and if so, then normal compost is sufficient. So that you can plant rosemary yourself, you should create a preculture (reuse of an old plastic bowl or other imitations of a greenhouse ­čśë) on the windowsill, which always has at least 20 ┬░ C basic heat. So the healthy plant can germinate ideally.

Buy rosemary You can get rosemary here, for example, as an essential oil. In this form, the healthy plant is perfect as a bath additive, for massages and of course as an additive when cooking. But of course you can also get rosemary in a dry cut form. There is cut rosemary in plastic-free packaging. Of course, you can also get planted rosemary in supermarkets & hardware stores. But if you want to have the whole plant at home, you should plant rosemary yourself and do without the plastic bowl that you usually get.

2. Echinacea (coneflower)

Echinacea is also called coneflower or hedgehog head. The healthy plant actually comes from North America, but also grows with us. Echinacea is best known as a medicinal plant. Since the effective plant has a positive effect on your immune system and strengthens your immune system, echinacea is an important component of many homeopathic medicines.

Effect of Echinacea Echinacea is a plant that contains many alkamides (have numerous anti-inflammatory properties) and essential oils. Depending on the exact nature of the plant, ingredients and effects differ slightly. But one thing is certain the plant strengthens your immune system and helps you to get sick less often. Optimally you start taking Echinacea at the latest at the first signs of a cold. Then you have a good chance that the plant will keep you healthy. The anti-inflammatory echinacea was able to accelerate wound healing in numerous experiments. The healthy plant inhibits the activity of certain enzymes, which means that fewer messenger substances are produced and fatigue, pain & inflammation are reduced. For example, sunburns can regenerate faster.

Plant Echinacea yourself: Healthy plants like Echinacea need relatively humid conditions and a temperature of around 20 ┬░ C if you want to plant them yourself. For planting, I read the following tips because I haven’t tried it myself: Let the seeds of the plant soak in the water and then see them in a bowl about 2 cm apart – in the period from March to July! As soon as the plant has formed the first healthy, complete leaves, you can transplant it into a normal flower pot. From April to August you should then move the plant outside and plant it.

3. Chamomile

Chamomile is a tried and true home remedy that has been proven to be very healthy for our body. The cool thing: you can simply plant them at home!

Effect of chamomile: With a high proportion of essential oils and flavonoids, the healthy plant has an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antispasmodic effect. Abdominal and sore throats have been treated naturally with the plant for a long time. Chamomile can be inhaled, classic chamomile tea can be made from the flowers or chamomile oil can be used as a massage additive, bath additive or for headaches and sore throats. Even the scent of the plant helps with headaches and sleep problems.

Planting chamomile yourself: Chamomile is one of many healthy plants, and there are a number of things to consider if you want to plant it yourself. A sandy loam soil is ideal as a basis for planting the camomile yourself and the location should be sunny but protected. The optimal time for planting in Germany is mid / late August and you should leave about 0.5 cm space between the seeds. You don’t have to press the chamomile seeds deep into the earth, they don’t need too much water either. After a week, they usually start to germinate. In winter you should cover the plants and cut back a little after winter.

4. Sunflower

Everyone knows the sunflower, but only a few know what value the plant has for our health. Because the kernels of the sunflower contain pretty much all the nutrients that our body needs. The really cool thing is that you can just eat the seeds as a small snack. Healthy plant with good taste!

Effect of the sunflower: Since the kernels of the sunflower contain a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, magnesium, iron, calcium, copper, phosphorus, selenium and many other vitamins and nutrients, they are particularly important for healthy skin, hair and nails. Sunflower oil in particular is very healthy for our organism. The effect of the sunflower is mainly used for irritation of the intestines, colds, inflammation of the skin (gums or wounds in general) or for lowering the cholesterol level. You can enjoy it in tea form, as a massage oil, or as a simple snack in between. With sunflower oil you can also do the so-called oil pulling and thoroughly clean your mouth.

Plant sunflowers yourself: You can also simply plant the sunflowers yourself. The healthy plant needs a lot of sun, a warm environment and a soil rich in humus and nutrients. Press the seeds about two centimeters into the ground and leave about 3 cm between the individual seeds. If you sow the seeds of the sunflower from mid-May, you will already have your sunflowers in summer. But I advise you to move the seeds to a bright place in the apartment from March. Outside it is still too cold for the sunflower until mid-May. As soon as it gets warmer, the healthy plant also needs a little more water. With a special fertilizer for green plants, you should give the sunflowers a little boost.

5. Peppermint

There are an incredible number of different types of mint. One of them is peppermint, whose refreshing menthol taste should be known to everyone. Peppermint is a healthy plant that should not be missing in any apartment.

Effect of peppermint: Essential oils such as refreshing menthol are also found in this healthy plant. Peppermint also contains flavonoids and important tannins. I find it particularly pleasant on the skin because it has a direct cooling effect. Even after inhaling, the throat is cool. Peppermint has an expectorant, antibacterial effect and stimulates your concentration. Peppermint also has its full effect as a mouthwash or bath salt (available here in a gift set).

6. Lavender

Lavender is a healthy plant that you can confidently call an all-rounder. Since the flowers of the plant have a healing effect on your body both internally and externally, they should not be missing in your apartment.

Effect of lavender: The oil of the plant has the property of acting very quickly at the application sites. The active ingredient lineally acetate in lavender oil protects your nerves from overstimulation, increases your well-being, calms you down and even gives you courage. Lavender has a noticeable effect on your state of mind and also helps you with sleep disorders or anxiety. In addition, lavender oil is anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, bloating, diuretic and improves blood circulation.

Planting lavender yourself: Lavender is one of many healthy plants that are ideally planted in spring. The plant should be grown in the apartment until mid-May, only then is it warm enough and you can transplant it outside. The perfect location for planting lavender is windless and sunny. The soil should be calcareous, sandy (ideally use herbal soil) and not too wet, because lavender absolutely does not like waterlogging and then shrinks quickly. An alternative is the purchase of young plants in the plant department of the hardware store.

7. Prickly pear

We have all seen the prickly pear before. Only a few know about the nutritious flesh behind the rough Schalke of this plant. That is why the prickly pear belongs on the list of healthy plants for your home.

Effect of the prickly pear: The sweet and sour flesh of the prickly pear contains hardly any fat and is rich in vitamin C. It has been proven that the prickly pear is the ideal plant to normalize your blood sugar level and your cholesterol levels. The healthy prickly pear also has an antispasmodic, digestive and wound healing effect.

Plant prickly pear yourself: To get the seeds of the prickly pear, you simply buy the plant in the supermarket, because you give the prickly pear without plastic. The kernels should then be completely removed from the pulp and dried. Then it is time to let the seeds of the healthy plant swell in water. The optimal soil is special cactus soil. After planting (not so deep in the ground!) Only slightly, moisten. So that the prickly pear has optimal conditions for germination, you should plant it at a temperature of 20 ┬░ C or a little more. After a few weeks, you can count on the prickly pear seedlings. After the seeds have risen for a few days, you should carefully move them to a sunny place.

8. Oats

Oat is a nutritious, healthy plant that we mostly eat in the form of oatmeal or baked goods. Super healthy, oats should not be missing in your kitchen, also because they can be grown yourself.

Effect of oats: oatmeal is rich in fiber, phosphorus, iron, zinc and especially many vitamins. The flakes have a high proportion of the beauty vitamin biotin, which is particularly good for strong and beautiful hair. The fiber in the healthy plant ensures that you feel full for a long time and increases your bowel function. Because oats also lower your cholesterol, the likelihood of heart disease also decreases. The oatmeal also has an antioxidant effect and strengthens your psyche.

Growing oats yourself: Admittedly, growing oats yourself is a bit more cumbersome than perhaps with other plants and herbs on this list. Because you need a little more acreage for a sufficient harvest. At the beginning of March, you can already see the oats. You should press the seeds about 3 cm deep. Ideally, you plant the oats where you had previously planted potatoes or corn. For optimal growth, you also have to harrow and roll. You should definitely read a separate article about this, which would, however, go beyond my contribution. J After the harvest, you need a grain squeezer that, by the way, does not need any plastic. This will give you the nutrient-rich oatmeal. It is possible to grow your own oatmeal yourself. However, we eat a lot more from the oatmeal than from the other healthy plants on this list.
