In our hCG table (urine) you can see which concentration of the hormone hCG is common for which day of pregnancy and which pregnancy test you can use and when, so that a reliable result is displayed.

In this article, I also explain what hCG actually is, how the concentration develops over the course of pregnancy and what you have to consider when using pregnancy tests.

HCG Table (Urine)

In the following hCG table you can firstly see on which day of pregnancy which hCG value is usual (determined on the basis of a study with approx. 100 women) and secondly what sensitivity a pregnancy test must have in order for it to have this hCG value in your Can display urine. (10 = 10 mIU / ml and 25 = 25 mIU / ml).

Please note the following when comparing your own values   with those in the table:

The hCG table makes it impossible to make any definite statements about the course of your pregnancy, since the hCG level can vary considerably from person to person. Values   outside the listed standard ranges can also be normal!

A single value is not particularly meaningful, it depends on the course of the values. It is important that the hCG increases at all (it is common that it doubles every two to three days).

What is hCG?

The hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is considered a likely sign of pregnancy, since it is formed almost exclusively during pregnancy in women. It is therefore also called the pregnancy hormone.

hCG is important for pregnancy because, among other things, it stimulates the luteal body, which in turn produces the hormone progesterone. Progesterone ensures that the endometrium builds up, is maintained throughout pregnancy and that there is no menstrual bleeding.

hCG Concentration In Blood And Urine

hCG can be detected both in the blood and in the urine. The concentration in the urine is always a bit lower. The concentration of hCG in the blood in women is usually below 4 mIU / ml.

As soon as you are pregnant, i.e. the fertilized egg has implanted itself in the wall of the uterus, the concentration increases rapidly. Usually the concentration doubles every two to three days. hCG is detectable in the body about 8 days after ovulation.

Between the 8th week of pregnancy and the 11th week of pregnancy, the hCG concentration reaches its zenith and then rises again continuously. About 11 to 17 days after birth, the hCG concentration returns to normal.

hCG Measurement With Pregnancy Tests

Many manufacturers promise that their pregnancy test hCG can be detected with an accuracy of 99% 10 to 14 days after ovulation. However, I recommend that you look at it with skepticism and not rely 100% on the displayed result of your pregnancy test.

Firstly, the manufacturer’s information usually only applies to optimal laboratory conditions (and not for the user at home). Second, the accuracy of most home pregnancy tests has not been confirmed by independent studies or verified by official agencies such as the BfArM or the ZLG.

So it happens that tests sometimes show a negative result, although it should actually be positive (false negative result).
